 1) Vanier Canada Graduate PhD Scholarships in Canada 

Vanier scholarships are offered to students with leadership skills and a high standard of scholarly achievement in undergraduate studies in streams such as social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, engineering and health. Over 110 Vanier CGS Scholarships are awarded to international students enrolling for a PhD course in Canada every year. During three years of doctoral studies, more than $45,000 is awarded per year.

Eligibility to study a PhD course in Canada with scholarships:

  • Students must be nominated by an eligible Canadian institution.
  • Should have academic excellence, research potential and leadership (potential and demonstration ability).

2) Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS)

Students with excellent academic records wanting to study a PhD course in Canada can apply for the Ontario Graduate Scholarship. The scholarship is available for Graduate students of all disciplines enrolling in Ontario schools. Each award is jointly funded by the Province of Ontario and the respective institutions. Based on the number of terms of consecutive studies within an academic year, over $8000 and $ 12000 are offered for two & three consecutive study terms respectively. Each scholarship is awarded for a minimum of one academic year and a maximum of two years.

Eligibility to study a PhD course in Canada with scholarships 

  • Students in master or doctoral level.
  • Enrolled in a full-time program for 2 or more terms (21 to 52 weeks in total) for the academic year you're submitting your application.
  • Attending an Ontario school.

3) Ontario Trillium PhD Scholarships in Canada

This is a provincially-funded scholarship offered to international students wishing to study PhD courses in Ontario universities. The Ontario government awards more than 70 Ontario Trillium Scholarships (OTS) every year. International students wishing to study PhD in any academic discipline are eligible for the Ontario Trillium Scholarship. Ontario Trillium Scholarships awards approximately $40,000 annually for up to 4 years.

Eligibility to study a PhD course in Canada with scholarships: 

  • An international student with a valid Canadian Student Visa.
  • English proficiency test score.
  • An 8.0/10 or A - average (Ontario equivalent of 80%) in both the years of full-time study.
  • Should not have completed a UG or PG degree at any university/ college in Ontario before applying for admission to the PhD program under OTS.
  • Should not be a current student at a post-secondary institution in Ontario at the graduate or undergraduate level.

4) Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships

International post-doctoral students looking to contribute to Canada's economic, social and research-based growth are chosen for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship program. This fellowship aims to develop international students' leadership potential and mould them as successful research leaders. 

Every year more than 65 fellowships are awarded to international students across the globe. The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program is administered by Canada's three research granting councils - the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and the Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council of Canada.

  • International students must participate in a Canadian institution.
  • Fulfilled all degree requirements for PhD, PhD equivalent or health professional degree.

5) The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation PhD Scholarships in Canada

The three-year leadership program is designed to train Engaged Leaders, equipping outstanding doctoral candidates with the skills to translate their ideas into action to better their communities, Canada, and the world.

The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarship awards up to $40,000 per year for three consecutive years for tuition fees and living expenses and up to $20,000 per year for research, networking and travel allowance. The funding can also be used to learn other languages.
